With his custom-made robot acrobat, Daniel Simu redefines our understanding of human-machine collaboration. With an exciting mix of juggling and acrobatics, he tells his personal story about the discovery of the Acrobot and in the same breath he questions our bond with machines and the future of the performing arts. The Acrobot is co-produced by V2_ Lab of Instable Media.
Bio Daniel:
Daniel Simu is a Dutch interdisciplinary artist with a Bachelor in Circus Arts (London NCCA) and a Master in Media Technology (Leiden University). He has performed all over the world as a juggler and clown for more than 15 years and was awarded, among other things, the prize for Best Dutch Juggling Act at the 2016 Dutch Juggling Championships.
In 2022, Daniel's curiosity about technology and performance gave rise to the desire to build the first Acrobot prototype. It played two great shows and then literally fell apart. Yet this success motivated him to acquire new skills, such as 3D printing, electrical engineering and precision mechanics, developing himself into a self-taught roboticist.
