Democratic experimentalism: societies as laboratories for the future - Prof.dr. Martijn Groenleer, Tilburg University (NL)
LOCATION: GRAVENSTEEN
LABEL: TALK
TIME: 21:30 - 22:00
In this lecture, Prof. Dr. Martijn Groenleer discusses what is also called democratic experimentalism or experimentalist governance. The notion of democratic experimentalism has its origins in the philosophy of the American pragmatist John Dewey. In The Public and its Problems (1927), Dewey proposed a method of democratic government that is experimental in nature. However, Dewey did not or hardly discuss how exactly to shape this method. In his lecture, Groenleer makes suggestions and gives examples of how to make the notion of democratic experimentalism concrete for an increasingly complex and dynamic society.
