QUANTUM MIRROR - Mike Rijnierse
LOCATION: OLD OBSERVATORY
LABEL: INTERACTIVE
TIME: CONTINUOUS
Quantum Mirror is a special mirror that shows the idea of quantum states to two people looking at it. It is a mirror held by two people at the same time. While one person sees half of their own face, the other half sees the other person's face. This strange image of two people merging shows the idea of superposition from quantum mechanics.
The idea of superposition is also shown in the famous thought experiment of Schrödinger's cat. It means that small particles can be in two ways at once until they are viewed. Quantum Mirror was designed with this idea in mind.
The algorithm for Quantum Mirror was created in collaboration with Rob Bothof. It ensures that every time it is used, it shows a unique pattern.
