Matthias uses existing AIs for this with as little intervention as possible, so that all built-in biases are preserved. For example, the 'race' or gender of participants are described and depicted.

“I don’t see the biases in our technology as flaws of the technology itself, but rather as magnifications of societal shortcomings that we need to highlight,” says Matthias Oostrik. “SMILE offers an intriguing look at beauty and perception and makes us think critically about technology.”
